graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
V. Jesus, meek and humble of heart.
R. Make our hearts like unto Yours.
Closing Prayer
Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of Your most beloved Son and upon the praises and satisfaction which He offers You in the name of sinners; and to those who implore Your mercy, in Your great goodness, grant forgiveness in the name of the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You forever and ever. Amen.
About the Sacred Heart Devotion
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus recognizes Christ's burning love for humanity, symbolized by His physical heart, often depicted as wounded and encircled by thorns. This litany was approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1899.
Jesus revealed His desires for this devotion to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century, asking for the establishment of a feast in honor of His Sacred Heart and promising great graces to those who honor it, especially through the practice of receiving Communion on First Fridays.
The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart, and First Fridays throughout the year are traditionally devoted to this practice. Many parishes celebrate Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and recite this litany on these occasions.
